Happy New Year to you all.  I hope 2018 sees all your dreams come true and I wish you great health, happiness and lots of amazing adventures and friendships.

I hope you enjoyed the festive season and are not finding the return to work and dark, cold days too depressing. Everywhere you look there is talk about resolutions and whether they are a good idea or not. I shall leave that up to you as you know yourself best. However, if you are looking for a new habit that will benefit you physically and mentally I do recommend you consider the power of gratitude. I have already written about the benefits of gratitude in my mental health week blog post but I feel so strongly about the benefits that I feel it warrants its own blog post.

There is a plethora of evidence out there that shows taking time each day to write down 3 things that happened that you are grateful brings a whole range of benefits from lowering blood pressure to improving relationships and immune systems. As a consequence why wouldn’t you spend a few minutes each day doing something that has such profound benefits and isn’t exactly difficult?

You could treat yourself to a nice new pad to write in, or you could write on paper and then put them into a big jar or tin, I have also messaged a friend my 3 things and then they have shared theirs which feels like it doubles the benefit or you can share over dinner with your family. However you do it I would suggest you give it a try and if you do please let me know how you get on.

On difficult days you can then read through the things you have written and remember some good times.

If you would like more information on how this works you may want to read this article, https://www.success.com/article/the-health-benefits-of-gratitude

Here’s to an amazing 2018 full of things to be grateful for.
