How I work with children

What is a hypnotherapy session like?

For children the session will be 45 to 90 minutes, depending on their age and issue. Included in the session time will be an explanation to the parent(s)/carer(s) of what was covered in a session and tips on how to help the child get the best results from the session.

Prior to a session I will send the parent(s)/ carer(s) an intake form which includes details of the issue you want me to resolve for your child. It is best to only have one issue per session. I will also send you some information to discuss with your child so they know what to expect and I am happy to speak to them on the phone or over Skype before the session.

At the start of the session I will talk to your child about the issue and what they want out of the session. We will also have a general chat about their likes and dislikes to make them feel comfortable. I will show them in a fun way how powerful their mind is and then explain how the session will work. They will be able to stop the session at any point and you can of course be in the session with them if you are both comfortable with that.

I will then put them in the hypnotic state. This is nothing to worry about as we all drift in and out of the hypnotic state throughout the day anyway. For example, when you walk a familiar route and reach your destination and then you wonder how you got there. They will feel really relaxed and sometimes they may fall asleep.

Then in the final part of the session I will talk to their subconscious mind and help them create and take on better beliefs and habits.

If all this sounds a bit too wacky please don’t be put off. Our brains are the best computers in the world yet most of us don’t use them to even a quarter of their full potential. Through hypnosis we are basically performing a software update. If you use smartphones, computers and tablets. you will know how regularly you update them, but when was the last time you updated your brain?

After the session I will send a bespoke recording, which is yours to keep. In order to get the full benefit of the session I recommend that your child listens to the recording every night, for three weeks, ideally before going to sleep. This is because research shows this is how long it takes to create a new habit and thus strengthen and embed what happens in the session. I will also send some post session notes and will do an email follow up the day after they first listen to their recording and then after the initial 3 weeks.
